Open publishing programmes

Open publishing programmes may be used by correspondence authors affiliated to UPWr, who at the time of accepting the article for publication have the status of an active employee or PhD student of Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences.

It is recommended to use e-mail addresses from the UPWr domain.

As part of the access agreement to the Emerald journal database, UPWr researchers have the opportunity to use 1 voucher for an open access publication (1 article).

The first-come, first-served principle applies. The voucher is valid until 31.12.2024 and is intended for correspondence authors affiliated to UPWr.

Once the article has been accepted, the system will automatically recognise the institution (it is recommended to use an institutional email) and offer the voucher.

Once the voucher has been selected, the CC BY 4.0 licence must be confirmed.

Status:

Active.

The program resumed from January 1, 2024 with a pool of 1,013 articles for 2024. Articles that were sent to journals already in 2024 are eligible for the program.

Last update 26.03.2024: 40 articles from the pool of 1013 articles for 2024 have been used.

The Elsevier 2022-2024 national license agreement covers the publication of a limited number of articles that are exempt from the Article Processing Charge (APC) (known as "program A" in the nomenclature of the previous agreement). The program has resumed for articles submitted to journals in 2024 with a new pool of 1,013 articles and a new list of journals included in the program.

For whom?

The programme is intended for correspondence authors affiliated to institutions that are members of the Elsevier National License, including UPWr.

What does the programme enable?

The programme from 2024 includes 1102 hybrid journals from 7 Science Direct subject collections: Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, Health Sciences, Immunology and Microbiology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy; and from the Lancet group.

How does it work?

The only fee covered by the program is the Article Processing Charge (APC). Authors publishing in the program are exempt from the APC fee, which is presented by Elsevier in the Rigts and Access form as a 100% discount.

If the organization, journal and article type are covered by the program, the form will automatically present the author with the option to publish openly within the program. If the item qualifies for the program and the program pool is not exhausted at the time of completing the form, the form will display the APC fee waiver option, see form presentation. When the available pool is exhausted, articles, despite the initial selection of the open model, are published in the subscription model.

Some journals charge additional fees, e.g. a page charge ("Page Charges"), a fee for accepting a manuscript ("Submission Fee") or for additional services that can be ordered by the author (copies, color drawings in the printed version, etc. ). These fees are described in instructions for authors on the home pages of individual journals and are indicated in correspondence with the editorial office or on a special website to which the author is directed by the editorial office after accepting the article for publication. These fees are not listed on the Rights and Access form described below, which only lists the APC fee. Additional fees are settled between the journal and the author on the basis of a separate invoice. The “Page Charges” fee applies regardless of the open or subscription publication model and, according to information from March 2021, it is used by several journals, but when publishing in any journal, the author should check the current rules on the website of the given journal.

Status:

Active. The costs of publication in selected journals, within the available pool of articles, are financed by WBN from the funds of the Ministry.

The program resumes on April 8, 2024, with a pool of 1,363 articles for 2024.

For whom?

The program is intended for corresponding authors affiliated with institutions that are members of the Springer national license, including UPWr.

What does the programme enable?

The program enables authors affiliated with Polish academic institutions to publish open access articles in Springer hybrid journals under the CC-BY license (or CC-BY-NC at the author's special request). The costs of publishing articles under the program are covered by the Springer national license fee from the funds of ministry. The program currently covers 1,980 hybrid journals from the core Springer collection and 20 ADIS hybrid journals, see the 2023 catalog. The program does not cover the open access journals BioMed Central and SpringerOpen. The program includes articles such as OriginalPaper, ReviewPaper, BriefCommunication and ContinuingEducation. The program does not include EditorialNotes, News, Letters. The program covers the Article Processing Charge, but does not cover optional additional fees for color drawings, etc.
Note: Advances in Therapy charges a mandatory additional Rapid Service Fee, which is not covered by the program. It is the only journal in the program with such a mandatory fee and will likely be removed from the program in 2025.

How does it work?

After the article is accepted for publication, the corresponding author receives an email that contains a link to complete the publication process. The link takes you to a page where you need to click 'Request login email', after which the author will receive a second email with a link to the Open Access Systems Solution form. In the form, the corresponding author must indicate his or her affiliation on the list of institutions covered by open publishing agreements with Springer. The selected affiliation must be one of the author's affiliations provided in the article. If, at the time of completing the form, the pool of articles in the program for a given year is not yet exhausted and the system recognizes the selected institution as belonging to the program, the form will display the information "Open access at no cost to you". After clicking 'Yes, submit for approval', information about the article will be sent to the local administrator in the institution to verify affiliation. The author will be notified about the verification result by e-mail (presentation).

For whom?

The programme is for correspondence authors affiliating to institutions that are members of the T&F consortium, including UPWr.

What does the programme enable?

The program includes publishing in T&F Open Select (hybrid journals) and T&F Open (OA) journals.
